Goals for your wedding

PDF Print E-mail

Planning a wedding is a huge task.

One can get lost in the fantasy, the details, and even other people's expectations. So it is really important to sort out what you and you partner need and want to happen with your wedding.

Unless one is a millionaire, most people need to compromise. But this does not mean you need to miss out on the things that are really important to you.

Times have changed. Most couples approach their wedding with a house already furnished with what is needed for day to day living. Their wedding night is unlikely to be their first full-on sexual encounter.

So presents may not be as important as they were in the past.

And given how work and travel can mean family and friends who are important may actually live at some distance from us, the presence of these people may be a high priority.

So today couples tend to plan their wedding weekend rather than wedding day.

And country locations may be a great place to bring everyone together.
There is accommodation and other facilities to suit every budget. And exploring all your options can open up possibilities you have not had a chance to think about.

Here are some steps to help you both plan together.

Step 1 =

BUDGET

* How much money is available to be spent on your wedding ?
* From yourself ? From others ?
* Do you have any other priorities in life that could use some or most of this money ? eg car, house deposit etc.
* How much are you prepared to spend on your wedding ?

Step 2 =

What do you feel or think are the IMPORTANT ASPECTS of the wedding

* The Ceremony ?
The Reception ?
The Honeymoon ?
* Promising love and support to your partner ?
* Having your partner do the same for you?
* Being in a beautiful place?
* Looking Good ?
* And having photos to prove it ?
* Having family present ? If so which ones?
* Having friends present ? If so, which ones ?
* Getting gifts and presents ?
* Having fun ?
* The food ? The drink? The Wedding Cake?
* The Music? The Dancing ?
* The Romance ?
* Getting time away by yourselves to consolidate your commitment ?
* Having great memories to look back on?

Step 3 =

WHAT do you want TO HAVE when the day is over

* A Firm Basis for a future life together
* Happy Memories
* Good Photographs and/or video ?
* Getting Valuable/ Practical Presents
* Better family and friendship relationships
* A good holiday
* Something in the bank for a rainy day when it is all over ?

Step 4 =

Do you have a STYLE or THEME in mind ?

* Small, Medium, Large ?
* Formal, Elegant?
* Romantic, Celtic?
* Country, Casual ?
* Fancy Dress ?
* Quirky ?

Step 5 =

Now the tricky part... HOW do you achieve all of the above ?

* Stick to budget
* Make sure the things that are important to you do happen on the day
* Have what you need when it is all over
* In the style you have in mind
*
