business_secretary_computer_typing_md_clrA question about the need for Celebrant Software prompted this response in the 'ACCN Celebrants Forum'

"IT challenged celebrants can cope very well with a physical diary and a filing cabinet with an date ordered manila folder for all their ceremonies, and TIP below.

IT savvy celebrants can use a range of free software that comes with their computer to help organise themselves - there are Calendars calendar notes, Reminders, Templates for Letterheads, Invoices, Receipts etc.

The NSW and Victoria BDMS now do on line registrations, so most of the forms for marriages are covered by those.

The ACCN Celebrant Shop sells a CD with Word File Templates for less than $ 30 depending on whether you want a CD posted or are happy with Emailed Files.

If you plan to do a range of ceremonies and work for the next 5 - 10 years, find IT stuff difficult but do want a computer system to streamline your work, then I'd recommend Celebrant Assist. Clive is extremely helpful and is continuing to add features to that software.

Celebrants need to be careful about loading your marrying couples information into a web-site owned by a private company, not the government,. There are considerable privacy and information control (eg potential identity fraud) issues involved.

At the last Coalition of Celebrant Association meetings with the Attorney General, the Marriage Registrar made it very clear that if anything were to go wrong, then you as the marriage celebrant would be personally liable.

TIP: Being a pre-IT celebrant, I found a simple way to label all my files so that they all gathered together in the one place, using the reverse date of the ceremony.

Prefix all your files with
MC - Marriage Ceremony, NC Naming Ceremony, WA Wedding Anniversary, BC Birthday Ceremony.
Then the REVERSE DATE order with two digits,
eg 5th May 2012 = 12-05-05
12th September 2011 = 11-09-12
1st December 2013 = 13-12-01

Then suffix with other notations
eg Form 14, Form 15, Let1, draft,

That way all your files will line up in your folders in date order and all your correspondence, draft, certificates etc will all be grouped together

eg
MC12-05-05-draft
MC12-05-05-final
MC12-05-05-form 15
MC12-05-05-let 1
