New Celebrants! What do you expect to achieve as a Marriage Celebrant?
If the answer has to do with creating that perfect ceremony for your client, then you’re on the right track. Always remember …It’s not about you, it’s about them!
Initially you will outlay lots of money for; stationery, office set up, PA system, bridal fairs, advertising, marketing, websites, clothes, car, petrol, public liability/professional indemnity insurance etc. Get plenty of good advice!
The ACCN website, Rona Goold and Ginny Bydder are a wonderful resource who will spend time to help and guide you. Use the expertise of the experienced, I did!
Behind the fun of being a Celebrant is the professional business person who needs to maintain accurate documents and a proficient public image. Everyone you meet is a potential client!
Keep copies of everything that you send to BDM for at least 6 months. Register all mail & keep the mailing slip.
Once something is in print it is impossible to change. Therefore, any text that potential clients read needs to be free of mistakes: your business card, advertisements, profiles on websites, letters to clients (in fact all correspondence to clients) and especially their ‘Wedding Ceremonies’. Read and reread your text and watch your punctuation, spelling, grammar, fonts and layout.
Keep every business receipt: for Tax and Centrelink purposes.
Client’s come in all shapes and sizes with all sorts of emotional baggage so be prepared!
Remember, that they are not your friend, they are a client and treat them accordingly. Your warmth, confidence and professional attitude will give them the courage to get through the most difficult parts of their Wedding Day.
When my couples take their vows and I feel the love emanate from them …I know why I became a Celebrant!
