Further to consultation with WA Funeral Directors attending the AFDA Conference in Perth last year, QualTrain Australia is acutely aware of the requirement for high standards of delivery and knowledge of protocols and procedures required of Funeral Celebrants. Funeral celebrancy is a true vocation. Before embarking on this course participants should consider whether or not they feel they have the empathy, fortitude and compassion to work within the Funeral Industry.

Generally, people believe if you are a celebrant then you would know how to conduct any ceremony, including funerals; so it is inevitable that at some time in your celebrancy career, someone will ask you to conduct a funeral.

My best advice to any celebrant who is (a) inexperienced in funerals (b) has received no training in funeral celebrancy – is to please consider whether you are making the right decision to take on the funeral – are you really prepared for:
  • Managing the grief of the bereaved family/friends/mourners
  • Creating a deeply respectful and significant ceremony to reflect the life that has been lived
  • Delivering that ceremony in an atmosphere which is way different to a joyful wedding or name-giving ceremony
  • Working effectively and professionally with other funeral services staff and observing the protocols and procedures which they expect celebrants to know about
This course will prepare you for work as a Funeral Celebrant, giving you confidence to deal empathically with the bereaved, work effectively with funeral staff, create and deliver deeply respectful and meaningful ceremonies, truly reflecting and honouring the life that has been lived.
