ACCN Celebrant Resources: Websites

Non-Aligned Religious Celebrants.
Please note that most of our ACCN Shop Products and Services can be adapted for Non-aligned Religious Celebrants.

In our December 2008 Your Space we did a detailed article on Websites for Celebrants, based on the understanding that for many new or longer term celebrants the cost of having a website may seem prohibitive.

Some celebrants have asked if we could make that a little simpler. So here's hoping :-)

The ACCN made a number of recommendations All civil celebrants have a web presence
All civil celebrants, if they can afford to, purchase their own domain name ($ 40 to $ 45 for two years)

Then depending on your budget, and if you could afford to, consider

Purchasing a low cost Hosting Package (eg Webstrike) and use free Open Source Web Design Software (eg Joomla) or other website building tools.

The most expensive option here usually. We suggest you talk to your local Small Business Advisory service about available services in our area.

Using such software usually means more training than other options.

Next best option, consider

Purchasing a Hosting Package that gives you Tools to create and maintain your own Website.

For example, Netregistry has an ecomony plan which you can pay $ 15.95 per month and receive a 3 page free website with free tools for you to create your own. You should be able to figure how to use this, if not by yourself, then with a next door neighbour's child :-)

If that's still a bit pricey for you, then consider

Purchasing a Domain Manager (cost $19.95 pa with Netregistry) and "point" your domain name to somewhere where you have a listing on the internet such as:

* a free home page you have with your Internet Service Provider or listing with your celebrant association,
* or paid listing you have eg your listing with the ACCN, your celebrant association or some other directory.

* or such a place could be a 5 Page Website on the ACCN Homepages website


TAKE A $35 UPGRADE TO 5 page Website on ACCN Homepages on a $22 or $75 pa ACCN Listing
$ 35 upgrade to existing listing for ACCN members.

Advantages:
Lower cost. You can set up and edit your own website. No hosting costs as part of the ACCN website.
Disadvantages:
Not as many templates. Your website is noted on Google, but as part of the ACCN homesite, not your own domain.

The Home Pages software allows you to have up to 5 pages, including a Photo Gallery Page, Music Page, and Contacts page if you wish. Various templates allow you to have different colour schemes.

How your website finally looks will depend on your choices on content, combination of page types and your photos.

If you can not afford any of the above options yet, any existing web entry you have can be used as a web address.

As a bare minimum, you can use the website address (URL) of any
* paid listing you have eg your listing with the ACCN, your celebrant association or some other directory.
* free home page you have with your Internet Service Provider or listing with your celebrant association, or

For example: an ACCN Standard listing is $ 22 pa or Deluxe is $ 75 (Standard plus Photo) has a URL you can use as yours, and is formatted as www.accn.com.au/directory/your-name/

This can be used especially in emails to provide a link to more of your information and your photo.
But as with other web pages on other organisations' websites, the URL is long, cumbersome, and not easy to remember. ACCN 5 Page Website and Free Website Making Tools - Limited number of templates available

Try before you buy!

For example, Netregistry has a 3 page free website builder with its Economy Hosting Plan of $191.40 pa.

To try creating a website with Netregistry try their Netregistry Tool Box
TOTAL Approx $ 214 pa.
Advantage: Your own domain name is recorded in the Search Engine Files with this option rather than your homepages URL as inn Option 2.

But note:
This option does not include the cost of your Listing on the ACCN website, association website, or anywhere else you may use.

So add the cost of your ACCN listing ($22 or $75) to compare cost with our 5 page website.
