New arrangements for Ongoing Professional Development in 2010

As most marriage celebrants would be aware, the Attorney General's Department advised of the outcome of the consultation process in February 2009. The key elements are outlined below:

  • Registered Training Organisations with the Certificate IV in Celebrancy within their scope of registration (or a university listed in a determination made by the Registrar of Marriage Celebrants in accordance with the Marriage Regulations 1963 as offering an equivalent qualification), or training organisations in the process of becoming such an RTO, are invited to submit an expression of interest to be part of a panel of providers to develop and deliver OPD for all Commonwealth marriage celebrants.  The Request for Expressions of Interest is now available on AusTender. The closing date and time is 19 January 2010 by 2 pm (ACT local time).
  • This new OPD arrangement will take effect from 1 January 2010.
  • The registration year is changing. Registration years will start on 1 January and finish on 31 December each year.
  • This website will publish information about your OPD obligations including how to contact the panel of OPD providers once the Request for Expressions of Interest process is finalised.
  • Annual returns will not be required.

At this time, there has been no annoucement of the outcome of the Expressions of Interest.

Check the Marriage Celebrant Section of the Attorney Generals' website regularly for Notification of the OPD Programs.
