V13 A Family Wedding

PDF Print E-mail

Oconnell_BoatMy brother in law Raymond, married Margo on board the Alfred Nobel in Darwin Bay Tuesday April 26th.

For a while it looked like I was not only going to be the celebrant but the hairdresser and florist, as nothing was open, being the public holiday for Anzac Day.  Fortunately we did find both, but I still did both Mums’ hair and an aunt.

Nothing unusual about a boat wedding except that the bride arrived on another boat, a magnificent yacht (her father's)!  It was a lovely fun wedding, with lots of laughter and love!  As I explained to them, I don’t do, boat/beach/mountain weddings, but I would make an exception for them.

In the great networking world of celebrancy, I was very grateful to Darwin celebrant Nancy Battenburg, who came to my rescue when I discovered I had inadvertently put my late father in law’s name as Edward Anzac instead of Anzac Edward on the marriage certificate, you can now see the relevance of the wedding being celebrated around Anzac Day!

Nancy also picked up an error that I had put Darwin Bay rather than Harbour (it was originally going to be in Cullen Bay).  I was disappointed that circumstances for both of us meant that Nancy and I never had the opportunity to have that cup of coffee together – but like all things, it might not happen overnight but it will happen I’m sure!
