Our Renewal of Vows Ceremony
On June 13th this year, my husband Graeme and I celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary. As this is quite a milestone in one’s life, we decided to have a family celebration which would include the renewing our vows.
After a few months of planning, invitations to our family and close friends were sent out.
Our chosen venue was the Hume Resort, as it has accommodation on site with lovely, but low level water views over Lake Hume.

My celebrant friend, Jan Newton and I put together a ceremony that incorporated the best of ceremony ritual that we have experienced. All our grandchildren and original bridal party had roles to play in the ring warming, candle lighting, flower giving, readings, blessings, and showing of original bridal gown, veil and bridesmaids accessories.
The signing table was set with photos and special memorabilia covering our 45 years of married life.
The day arrived and with all gathered together, Jan led us beautifully through the ceremony. We then had pre-dinner drinks, and were seated giving our dinner orders.
Graeme said quietly to me that he needed some fresh air and quickly left the table. My brother followed him just in time to see him collapse.

An ambulance was called and we were off to the emergency ward where the professional doctors and nurses set about saving Graeme’s life. He had blocked arteries and one was becoming severely damaged. It was then decided to fly him down to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne for immediate repair surgery.
As you can imagine we were all suffering from a sense of shock, that such a fit healthy man could come so close to death so quickly? The operation was successful and after a few days in Melbourne, Graeme was home and on the road to recovery. He continues to improve and, in fact begins cardiac rehabilitation this week.
Family and friends now jokingly say that they won’t let me organise any other celebrations, as they don’t know who could be next on my list. Denice Murphy Civil Marriage Celebrant Albury NSW - Wodonga North East Victoria More about Denice
