For all Occasions: Poems, Prose, and Party Pieces for Reading Aloud
Compiled by: Peter Barkworth
Date: 1999
Publisher: Methuen

I bought this book a few months ago, included are Peter Barkworth’s inspired selections for Weddings, Funerals, Christenings, Memorial Services, The Four Seasons and a brilliant collection of  Show-off  Poems.

The authors are as diverse as Joyce Grenfell, Noel Coward, William Shakespeare, T.S.Elliot, and many others including both known and unknown. This may not be the book a funeral celebrant would buy, but I am very happy to have it in my library

Comments:
This is an excellent reference book; the index is first-rate and easy to follow.

For example, If one wished information on Australian PGA winners, look up golf and refer to pg 93 Year/winner/course listed from 1950 to 2002. Aussie Icons (pg328-335) includes information on Holden Cars, Dog on the Tuckerbox, Tim Tams and much more. Also has excellent information on Aussie buildings: Sydney Harbour Bridge (pg 334), Snowy Mountain Scheme (pg 335).

This book lists much information on entertainment including television shows and Australian movies. One can find the ten most popular breeds of dogs and cats; this book tells us about our proudest moments, disasters, our tragedies, and the land itself, our flora and fauna, crimes and mysteries.
