Dear ACCN Members
CCGA (MONASH) TENTH ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2011
We welcome you to join us for our Tenth Annual Conference.
THE CONFERENCE THEME - IMAGINEER THE FUTURE
The word ‘imagineer’ - a portmanteau word combining ‘imagination’ and ‘engineer’ - has been around for some time, possibly coined by Alcoa in 1942.
With the subscript – Imagine the possibilities and engineer them to create our future -
the theme resounds for CCGA (Monash). As a group and as professional individuals, we are continually seeking to provide the most appropriate, highest quality ceremonies.
THE CONFERENCE PROGRAM
Following the opening ceremony for the conference, the morning and early afternoon of Friday is taken up with the OPD program required under the terms of our registration as celebrants. Beth O’Brien of Australian Celebrations Training will provide a stimulating five-hour program to enable us all to fulfil our obligation. She was highly endorsed by participants in 2010. We have been fortunate to engage top-class keynote speakers to stimulate our discussions and networking during the conference. Dr Jonathon Welch AM, founding Artistic Director, Choir of Hard Knocks, now the Choir of Hope and Inspiration; Dr Leslie Cannold, author, commentator, ethicist, researcher and social activist; Professor Kate Burridge, linguist, author, and currently holding the Chair of Linguistics at Monash University; and playwright, screenwriter, freelance journalist and editor, Hannie Rayson. Each is prominent in their particular fields and each has a presentation to make that will inspire and reflect our conference theme – Imagineer the Future. In addition, several of our members have volunteered to present a variety of workshops to share their knowledge, experience and skills in our work as celebrants. Friday evening will feature the Conference Dinner, also at the Treacy Centre, the time to frock-up and celebrate, to meet new people, renew long-standing friendships and to have fun. With Dr Jonathan Welch AM as our speaker, this will be an event not to be missed. We encourage you to bring along your partner and/or roadie to share the celebration. Saturday’s proceedings will be launched in splendid style with Dr Leslie Cannold as our keynote speaker followed by time for networking and members’ presentations. A brisk CCGA(Monash) AGM will be held for members, allowing you, our guest celebrants, time out for networking as we put in place our new committee and program for the year ahead. After lunch Professor Kate Burridge will bring us up to speed with the changing face of language usage in the community and how this might affect the language we write and speak as celebrants. More member presentations follow Dr Burridge’s presentation and concluding the day, in case you think spirits might be sagging, we have the inspiration of a session with Hannie Rayson, followed by a brief closing ceremony and refreshments.
