| ACMCV: The Association of Civil Marriage Celebrants of Victoria |
|
The Association of Civil Marriage Celebrants of Victoria Inc. has almost completed their Ongoing Professional Development sessions throughout Victoria. Whilst most people felt that they gained some information from mixing with others and through open discussions, many were generally bored and disappointed at having to sit through 2 hours watching the DVD. All would have preferred the material in print format. It is hoped that the Attorney-General comes up with something less tedious and more interesting for next year.

The Association continues to grow - and in an effort to support all members we have chosen to place advertisements in several bridal magazines and on bridal websites directing couples to the ACMCV website which contains the contact details of all members. Most celebrants are finding that new inquiries are far fewer than they have been in the past and enthusiasm is waning somewhat. But we have to stay positive and constantly think about other ceremonies that we can perform besides weddings. The ACMCV constantly strives to assist members and always at the lowest price possible so that everyone can participate. The annual Sunbury conference has had to be moved to Rowville, at short notice, however it hasn't altered the bookings. The full day conference will cover several sessions, including a Naming workshop, a session on the best way to use poetry and music to compliment ceremonies, and a session from one of the most experienced celebrants in the area of Wiccan / Medieval ceremonies. As well there will be several other question and answer forums, including one with a representative of Melbourne's Births, Deaths and Marriages Department and another on tips and tricks with understanding website hits. The conference is open to members and non members. Interested persons can contact:

CoCA – Coalition of Civil Celebrants Associations
AFCC President Lance Tapsell has been elected as the inaugural President of CoCA. Congratulations to Lance, and we all trust that CoCA will be able to represent the many celebrant associations so that our role in society is enhanced, acknowledged and has its professional profile raised.
AFCC Sub-Committee
A Value-For-Money sub-committee has been investigating ways for the AFCC to provide better value to its members. In light of the considerable savings anticipated as a result of the re-structuring of the administration of the AFCC office, possible areas include:
- Access to reduced insurance premiums
- Provision of a wider range of quality OPD courses at reasonable prices for members
- Reduction of OPD costs
- On-line subscription reduction
- AFCC website – links to personal websites
- AFCC website – free members “trading post” or “classifieds” for personal celebrant items.
- A range of vendor discounts for AFCC members
- Publication of a ‘Buyer’s Guide’ for members including available discounts
