ACMCV: The Association of Civil Marriage Celebrants of Victoria

Our committee is busy getting ready for their Ongoing Professional Development courses commencing in May and running throughout Victoria over 2 months.    The three sessions are almost fully booked at Mt Waverley however there are still some vacancies at Bendigo on May 18th,  Mornington on May 26th,  and Geelong on June 17th.

The ACMCV has approval to conduct 'Finding the Right Answers" and the elective topic they have added to the program is "Involving Clients in Development of their Ceremony".  If anyone wishes to book for OPD contact the Secretary.

Socially,  we are also busy organising several events -  firstly the Xmas in July function which is held at the Riversdale Golf Club in Mt Waverley on Wednesday July 8th. This is always a great event and the entertainers booked for 2009 at Wandering Minstrels,  Attila and Nimrod.

A little later in the year, but not far away,  is "Sunday in Sunbury"  our annual conference. This is not OPD, it is far more interesting and enjoyable than that!  We have guests speakers, including several of our experienced members who will be sharing their knowledge on ceremony -  we will have a representative from Births, Deaths and Marriages,  to answer questions and so much more.  The event is held at the Olive Hill Estate in Sunbury - costs are kept to a minimum so it is affordable for all.  It is a wonderful chance to network amongst colleagues.  Further information can be obtained from Dawn Dickson.

New members are always welcome at the ACMCV. Annual fee is $110 which includes Professional Indemnity insurance. Members have a free ad on the ACMCV website  -  a quarter magazine is still posted out to members to keep them informed,  there is a chat forum and the security of having 24 hour assistance, should be it be needed.  With the huge influx of new celebrants our membership has steadily risen over the last couple of years but there is always room for a few more.  ACMCV members do enjoy a discounted fee on OPD.      If you are interested in joining, please contact Dawn Dickson,  Secretary, ACMCV  Email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. AFCC: The Australian Federation of Civil Celebrants

The AFCC is an active organisation which caters for the needs of general, marriage and funeral celebrants.

The AFCC is currently undergoing some significant changes. Members would be aware through email notification that Michael & Monica Morse of Belinda’s Business Centre (administrative services as part of the AFCC office) have tendered their resignation. The national committee under the guidance of Lance Tapsell, is putting temporary structures into place to ensure a smooth transition from the current situation until new arrangements can be put in place.

More

As this is proceeding, an organizational review by an external consultant, and instigated by the committee, is taking place. It is expected that the review will be completed by the end of May, and all members will be kept up to date on progress.

The National Committee has adopted a portfolio system this year whereby committee members have responsibility for such issues as OPD, Public Relations, membership, conferences, communication, funeral celebrants and policy development as well as the traditional executive roles. These areas are currently being reviewed in line with the change-over of services. Committee elections are due prior to the AGM, and members will be sent information electronically with instructions on how to nominate and/or vote.

The annual conference this year will be held in Adelaide, and a SA committee has been working particularly hard to ensure that the program is an interesting an informative one. Dally Messenger will be the keynote speaker, and with lunchtime conversation sessions, OPD and elective sessions, it promises to be one that will linger in our memories – not to forget the social program and the beautify city of churches.  Remember the dates:

Adelaide 12 -14 July 2009  Non-AFCC members are welcome to attend. For more information, visit the AFCC website at www.civilcelebrants.com.au and click on the ‘Conference’ link.

OPD is also proceeding well and almost daily, new dates and venues are being added to the list. Members are advised to check the AFCC website regularly to ensure they have an opportunity to complete their OPD requirements for the year. Non-AFCC members are also welcome to attend the sessions.

HCN: Humanist Celebrant Network
Humanism, a non-theist belief system without expectation of reward or punishment after death, affirms the dignity and worth of all people.  It is a-religious but not anti-religion.

The Humanist Celebrant Network is a freewill association of likeminded civil celebrants who
More
·         honour the Humanist origins of the civil Celebrancy movement and program in Australia
·         are  committed to providing meaningful secular rituals and ceremonies
·         are respectful of the beliefs of their clients without endorsing them or directing them

The major focus of HCN, a member of the Coalition of Celebrant Associations, is advocacy to government about the needs of celebrants and the ceremonial needs of the Australian public

Celebrants who are in sympathy with Humanist beliefs and support the objectives of HCN are invited to apply for membership.
