| AFCC: The Australian Federation of Civil Celebrants |
The AFCC is an active organisation which caters for the needs of general, marriage and funeral celebrants. Proactively representing their views about current issues and trends, the AFCC is a key member of the Council of Civil Celebrants (CoCA) and instrumental in providing key feedback to the Marriage Celebrant section of the Attorney General’s Department about the future of ongoing professional development. The AFCC recently attended an OPD meeting in January and will also be representing members at a CoCA meeting to be held soon.

Recently the National Committee held a face to face meeting in Perth, where WA AFCC members were invited to join in discussion with the WA Registrar of Births Deaths and Marriages prior to an enjoyable dinner. Each month the national committee holds teleconferences which include each state and territory concerns, as well as major issues from within portfolios. In a time when celebrancy is undergoing such immense change, the AFCC considers this year is a pivotal and important one and it is important to ensure that these monthly teleconferences assist in keeping the association and its members well informed about future directions.
Around the country, introductory sessions for new celebrants have been coordinated by local state representatives. In July, the AFCC is hosting a national conference in Adelaide (full details on the website). While this is a conference coordinated by Adelaide members of the AFCC, the conference is open to all celebrants Australia-wide, and will include an oration by Dally Messenger, OPD and elective professional learning, and opportunities to network and learn more about celebrancy in a range of contexts.
The AFCC is currently undergoing an extensive organisational review under the direction of a consultant from Corporate Success Group (Brisbane), and is due for completion in May 2009. With an ever increasing membership and an active organisation, it is important that the AFCC is well placed for future growth, provides value for money for its members and is an effective and efficient organisation both structurally and in the services it provides.
