Beach Weddings in Adelaide?
Hi,
We are looking to get married sometime at the start of Summer 2012 but I am British and have a lot of family coming over from England so need to get organised on dates asap so that people can get over to Adelaide.
We were hoping to have a beach wedding in Adelaide but no matter how hard I try I cannot find any information on whether this requires a permit. I see that you need permits to hold the ceremonies on the coucil owned parklands, and hotels which have "beach access" will also hold you ceremony but only if you also have the reception there. Is there somewhere which would have this information?
If anyone could help it would be much appreciated!
Thankyou,
J and Ben

I googled permit for beach wedding glenelg and came up with the following info - item 16 is about weddings. I think you will probably have to choose your beach and then contact the local council that covers that area for information.

I'm in NSW and our local council do require notification of weddings on the beach, I think it is a fairly normal requirements so if you struggle to find information in writing just call the appropriate council office

Jo and Ben, As Sonia wrote like NSW, Qld Councils require a permit to use public space. As part of the permit here the council will mow the area and ensure it is clean and if necessary help you/advise you to rope it off. I suggest that you find exactly where you want the wedding to be, check out the light for the time of day and the possible tides (any fishing shop locally could help there) and tthen contact the council and ask them their requirements and also restrictions e.g no alcohol or glass.

I enjoy assisting beach wedding in Central Queensland and make an isle of shells from the beach and flowers. Avoid wearing high heels as you will sink into the sand, but have your fancy shoes ready for after. Arrange for someone the rake the sand before you set up so it looks nice. If SA is hot then don't have bare feet and the sand can burn. Sun screen, Insect repellant and water for your guests is a good idea. I hope you have a lovely day. Jill Rockhampton Qld

Thank you so much for your help.
Good advice about the bare feet too, I wouldn't have even considered sand burn! We've now booked a date for the reception so now comes the hunt for a viable piece of sand!
Thanks again for your responses

Hi Jo and Ben
Parking may be another consideration for your guests. Your family may be able to investigate that too.
You may also try contacting some of our Adelaide celebrants. See:

Re: Beach Weddings in Adelaide?
Hi Jo and Ben, I have performed a lot of weddings along Adelaide's metropolitan beach coastline and along the southern coast and would be very happy to catch up and chat with you about possible options. As advised you will need to contact the relevant local council to find out their regulations, but it is common that you simply share the beach with the general public. Some beaches are definitely better options than others, and I would always encourage you to have a "plan B" in the event of rain ... and be ready for it to be windy! Please feel free to contact me for a chat ... easily done through my website www.sandiemeyer.com.au. Warm regards.

Beach Wedding in Adelaide must be very great and i think there are many other things which can help you to maker it memorable. I think wedding on beach is always a very great way to celebrate the day and then you have every one there make it more interesting. As i know you require a permit for wedding on a beach and for that you can contact to the local authorities and you can also contact to a wedding planner they have some good views near to beaches and some times these wedding planner has good connection with the local authorities.

Dear Jo & Ben,
Just reading your enquiry & the responses - perhaps, as you've booked your reception, but haven't mentioned the location - and if you aren't familiar with the environs - this forum may be of assistance in making suggestions for beaches to consider situated within a viable proximity to your reception venue.
I hope your search is successful - & that you have a wonderful day. I'm only too happy to assist if there's a need - I may be contacted via my website : janinegilland-celebrant.com. With my best wishes, Janine.

Re: Beach Weddings in Adelaide?
I might as well jump on the bandwagon here by saying; if you do decide to marry on a beach somewhere, be careful just where you choose as it may attract many curious onlookers. I conducted a wedding ceremony on a popular section of beach at Wollongong a few years back, and (wow) did it ever bring the attention. The guest list would have been around 50 or 60, by the time the ceremony came to an end, there would have been close to five hundred if not more, including dogs of all sizes on leashes. At north Wollongong there is a beautiful large park where many do go for picnics. The beach is right beside this park and at arms length there is the famous Lagoon Restaurant, which does bring many high profile people there, including politicians. And yes there were a few on the day as well.
So if you dont mind the curious onlookers, then forget what I just wrote. CONGRATULATIONS - and best of luck.
