" Ceremonies are a way we can connect, reflect, and show our appreciation for moments we may otherwise overlook.
Ambience and setting add to the celebration as do the inclusion of rituals and special words that reflect the family’s values and ideas." Jane Gray

Keira Jane’s naming day took place on a beautiful sunny winter’s day at the picturesque Edoogawa Japanese Gardens at East Gosford.

The pagoda where the ceremony was held is built at the side of a large pond and a table with white cloth and chair were set up inside. Small flower petals were used in place of water and my client requested that a prayer be included in this ceremony. They wanted something light but religious.

I decided to write one and they were happy with this.

DEAR LORD ~~ Author Jane Gray
Dear Lord, we ask you to
Bless Keira’s tiny little heart
Give it courage to face life ahead.
Bless her tiny feet, and smooth the path they will tread.
Bless this precious little child that you have sent to us
Lord -Bless us as we care for her and help us every day
So we may raise this child with love and guide her on her way.
Amen.

One of the guests read Keira’s Star Sign and her aunt shared a poem she had written to celebrate this special day. Grand parents were acknowledged with love as were some family members who had passed. This couple wanted a simple but meaningful ceremony with no other rituals apart from the flower petals included.

The words in the ceremony were written to express their feelings and love for their child, to acknowledge their belief in their family circle and the importance of friends.

TIPS:

  • As this is winter, I did not think of the sun being extra bright and very hot so I did not take umbrellas with me.
  • There was no shade where the guests were standing and they were very hot.
  • One can never be over prepared.
  • Important for celebrants and families to consider the comfort of the participantsin outdoor services.
