Lord Robert (Bob) Lawrence Authorised Civil Celebrant - Appointed 2008

I started my career in Engineering in the UK then spent some time in the Royal Navy as a Mechanical Engineer, arriving in Australia in 1967 in Fremantle WA. After travelling Australia doing many different types of jobs I settled in Tasmania fell in love and married a local girl in 1970 whom I am still happily married to some 41 years later.

Eventually I took a position in the Textile industry, at first as a mechanic, eventually becoming Maintenance Manager for a large Carpet Manufacturer, where I worked for some 25 years.

I was brought up in the Anglican faith and rang bells at a local church so attended hundreds of weddings over time, always thinking how restrictive and regimented and sombre the marriage ceremony seemed to be, when conducted within the confines of the church, often thinking I could have done that and far better too.

The thing I remember about these ceremonies was that the bride or groom often said they would have liked to have more control and choice as to what the content of THEIR wedding contained. It was then I realised that being a marriage celebrant was something I could and I would really like to do.

It was many years later that the opportunity arose and I eventually enrolled in a training course and graduated from The Academy of Celebrancy Australia in 2007 and was Authorised as a Marriage Celebrant in July 2008 .

Since that time I have been honoured to have been chosen to officiate at numerous Wedding, Renewal of Vow, Naming’s and Commitment Ceremonies all around Tasmania.

Being able to participate and help design a ceremony for couples on what should be after all, the happiest day of their lives is still such a pleasure and honour to me and something I hope I can continue to do for many years to come. I believe ceremony is an important part of life’s ritual and should be an enjoyable and light-hearted affair, far removed from the sometimes sombre ceremonies conducted within the church.

This being the case I have officiated at ceremonies on Beaches, in Forests, in Gardens on Mountains.  All have been different, enjoyable and memorable.  I have yet to be asked to jump from a plane but I am game if you are.

I own part of a small estate in Scotland so happen to hold the title of Lord Robert Lawrence of Glencoe Lochaber.  So because of my Scottish heritage I was asked by one particular couple if I would be agreeable to conduct their wedding ceremony in full Scottish attire (kilted). This I did and was so well received by them and their guests that I now continue to offer my services dressed to my clients requirements as formal or as casual as they would like or kilted, this is now very popular.

With my love of drama and performance this fits in very well with me and just adds that little bit extra to their special day.
