Many thanks to Gwen for her profile. Cairns celebrant Gwen Stevenson - Appointed 2010Hi. My name is Gwen Stevenson, and I am an Authorised Civil Marriage Celebrant in beautiful Far North Queensland. I have lived in Cairns since 1983 and feel I have a very good feel of our lovely area and the fantastic locations the North has to offer for Wedding Ceremonies and other Life Celebrations. My Celebrant profession is on a part time basis at the moment, and I work full time for a family owned Resort in Cairns looking after their Administration requirements. I would love to be able to carry out the Celebrancy work on a full time basis though, and that is the goal I am working toward. Being a Marriage Celebrant is such a lovely vocation!! I became very interested in becoming a celebrant after attending a couple of weddings for some of our friends. What a beautiful thing to be able to do - to make two people so incredibly happy and give them a Wedding Ceremony that is Uniquely theirs! I became an Authorized Civil Marriage Celebrant in April 2010. My very first ceremony was for a lovely ex-work colleague of mine. Both parties were born outside Australia and the groom had been married previously overseas. They were having some difficulties acquiring the appropriate paperwork to prove the divorce, so I assisted with contact to the relevant department overseas and successfully retrieved the required paperwork as proof of divorce. They were very relieved and grateful and I was really glad I was able to help them in this way. Building a ceremony is an amazing journey. Getting to know your bride and groom and in some cases their close family. Writing a beautiful ceremony that suits the characters of the people involved, and the emotions and feelings they want to share on their day. Also, as a Celebrant, it is essential that I ensure the confidentiality of each and every couple is ensured. On some occasions, the happy couple wish to involve children in the Wedding Ceremony. Whether it be as Ring Bearers, Flower Girls or to stand beside Mum or Dad as their attendants. If very young children are included, it is a great idea to nominate an adult (nana, aunt, granddad) to be on hand for these little cherubs. As we all know, you cannot hold a little one's attention on one thing for too long without them losing interest and chasing after a butterfly or something. When all is said and done, the job of a Civil Marriage Celebrant is indeed very special, and I feel privileged that I am able to make people so incredibly happy. To ensure their Wedding day is full of the intimacy, joy, fun, sincerity and emotion it deserves. My job is to Make a Memorable Moment Uniquely Yours.
