Our thanks to Wayne for his Celebrant Snapshot. Perth Celebrant Wayne Loughrey Appointed 2009 For the last 40 years I have been involved in the Australian agricultural industry, firstly in NSW and Victoria finally settling down 26 years ago in WA with our family in Lesmurdie. My wife Rosemary and I have been married for 38 years this year and we have both travelled to various countries throughout the world and have now just about completed our list of places to travel. I am and have been involved in many community groups such as Rostrum, Apex, Local Bush Fire Brigade, Masonic Lodge, RSL, and previously a member of the management committee of the South of Perth Yacht Club. What attracted me to being a Celebrant? It was a friend and colleague also Celebrant & JP who suggested that with my experience and ability to work with people and public speaking skills and to use a quote “a great voice” moved me into discussing and receiving reassurance from family and friends. I was appointed by the Attorney General in April 2009. From Feb to Sept 2009 and again in 2010, I was on assignment in Far North Queensland which reduced the amount of time I could devote to celebrant work. Since my return to WA I have been enjoying meeting and conducting ceremonies for some great couples and looking forward to conducting my current ceremony bookings for 2011. A memorable time was, when I received notification of my appointment, this was both exciting and somewhat scary. What now! A moment that I will remember was recently conducting a ceremony for my cousin in Victoria, having known him since he was a baby. Now asked to conduct the wedding ceremony for he and his lovely bride and having most of the family present was a day we will all remember. For those planning a ceremony be it a wedding or any other family ceremony. There is a lot of planning to be done, where, time, vehicles and a lot of other items on your minds and some couples leave the celebrant choice as almost the last thought. I would like to suggest that you choose your celebrant as soon as you can once you have set a date. This gives both parties time to discuss your needs, time for meetings to plan for that special day. It also gives the celebrant an opportunity to make sure that you are first in his/her booking diary and they have time to prepare a ceremony that befits your special day. Last minute arrangements can come unstuck and this could spoil one of the biggest days in your lives. Wayne M Loughrey – Authorised Civil Celebrant“Creative Ceremonies” Perth WA
