LornaMcK_celebrantI’m an historical costume and quilt maker; a veggie growing, preserving, home cook, who prefers to think global and act local and to live lightly on the earth. I prefer vintage to new, I’m a commuting cyclist, bush walker and camper, a reader of novels, addicted to technology and slow food advocate. I’m a chorister and folk singer, beginner uke player and belly dancer, who adores dress up, history, vintage and above all difference and community. I practice yoga and meditate and I acknowledge each part of the year’s cycle.

I came to celebrancy with a profound desire to create meaningful ritual in my community. I believe strongly that birthing, coming of age, death, menstruation, menopause, marriage and commitment ceremonies are rites of passage that need to be thoughtfully and appropriately marked for us to fully transition into the next phase of our lives. It is exciting to be around people who want to reconnect to community, taking time to mark and celebrate each new season of our lives.

My first ceremony was Naming Ceremony, it was deeply moving because the act of naming someone is an act of acceptance — a sign that this child has a place amongst us all. The naming ceremony was a way of welcoming her into family and community; a way of allowing significant people in the her life to express their hopes for her and their intentions to help her throughout their life.

A tip for weddings: A green wedding ceremony is earth friendly, one that incorporates your commitment to a sustainable life. Green wedding ceremonies are Earth centred, they incorporate your life affirming desire to ensure that the all Earth’s diversity, beauty and difference will be here for your grandchildren.
