Our thanks to Pamela for her Snapshot - Appointed September 2006 I became very interested in becoming a Marriage Celebrant when, in the early 1970’s, the Attorney-General, Senator Lionel Murphy introduced an alternative way for people to marry. Because the position was a new concept, it was given quite a lot of publicity in the media and I always took a particular interest. I had very young children and the timing wasn’t quite right then. In fact it took some decades before I was able to fulfil my dream. Becoming a Marriage Celebrant was always in the back of my mind and I knew that some day that dream would come true.
In the meantime I pursued other avenues and obtained a Public Relations diploma, completed public speaking courses and over the years gradually completed what I call the jigsaw puzzle of my life. My employment led me to become involved in promotions and publicity within the retail industry. I organised in-store promotions, coordinated and compered fashion parades, hosted various quests and liaised with press and radio. I wrote weekly columns in local press, organised community events and acted as emcee at various major functions. During the 1990’s my life path was changing and as I was contemplating moving interstate from Sydney, I started thinking about what and where I would go from there, so I decided to complete a full Beauty Therapist course, which gained me not only an Australian diploma but an accreditation to practice internationally. I was married to my second husband in 2001 and moved from Queensland to Melbourne in 2002 where I had the opportunity to become a Marriage Celebrant. I attended Victoria University and graduated in April 2005 and was registered in September 2006. We moved back to the Gold Coast late 2005 and I became involved with the Arts Centre Gold Coast and have spent the past four years as a Director on the Board of the Friends of the Arts Centre. I am currently a new member of the committee of the Gold Coast Jazz and Blues Club. I enjoy all kinds of music, particularly jazz and blues and so am looking forward to contributing to this organisation and becoming involved with some of the great talent we have here in Australia. I am also very interested in local theatre and contribute any way I can - time permitting. I remember my first ceremony with great fondness. It was held on a farm in the magnificent Currumbin Valley in Queensland. The day was perfect and I conducted a hand-fasting ceremony in a circle which held such a divine feeling of being in accord with all the sacred elements of the earth. In fact, a letter of thanks I received from the bride and groom almost brought a tear to my eye when it was mentioned that “they had felt so calm and safe in the sacred circle I had provided.
