![]() Many thanks to Pat for providing his profile. Mr Pat Slee Authorised Civil Celebrant - 17 Appointed September 2009I encountered my first wedding when I was 19 a little while before I was to head off for National Service. I found it a strange mix of traditions and mutterings and took it all in. What a tangled mess of religious hypocrisy that was. A confused Agnostic marrying a non-active Catholic in a Methodist Church because the Catholics and the Church of England’s would not have either of us… and my fiancee’ wasn’t even pregnant at the time! From there on my exposure to Weddings and Marriage came through my mates marriages and those I used to work as a Musician + Master of Ceremonies. The decision to become a Marriage Celebrant was always there, on the back burner, but the need to become a ‘civic leader’ first was not possible then with my involvement in Corporate Senior Management and being a part-time Musician. So now I am a Celebrant… Excellent! I am lucky in that I have had many years working behind a microphone as a Public Speaker so that side of the Ceremonies is a lot easier for me than some others, but I still feel the nerves in the stomach every time I stand ready to approach the microphone, so the thrill is still there.

It really doesn’t matter if you are an “Old” or a “New” Celebrant, what does matter is whether you truly care about the people you are involving in the ceremony.
