Mr Pat Slee  Authorised Civil Celebrant - 17 Appointed September  2009

I encountered my first wedding when I was 19 a little while before I was to head off for National Service. I found it a strange mix of traditions and mutterings and took it all in.

The next one was my own, after I came back from Nashos and got my head back together, (well 95% anyway.)

What a tangled mess of religious hypocrisy that was. A  confused Agnostic marrying a non-active Catholic in a Methodist Church because the Catholics and the Church of England’s would not have either of us… and my fiancee’ wasn’t even pregnant at the time!

If only I had known about Civil Celebrants then.

From there on my exposure to Weddings and Marriage came through my mates marriages and those I used to work as a Musician + Master of Ceremonies.

Over the years this built up to a LOT of marriages I was part of: some good, some not so good, many being absolutely hilarious for one reason or another.

The decision to become a Marriage Celebrant was always there, on the back burner, but the need to become a ‘civic leader’ first was not possible then with my involvement in Corporate Senior Management and being a part-time Musician.

Now things are more sensible, people who want to be a Celebrant have the chance to become one.

So now I am a Celebrant… Excellent!

I thoroughly enjoy working with young and old alike creating ceremonies that mean something in these peoples’ circle of life.  Everybody is an individual; the fun is finding out who that person is and what excites them.

The responses so far to my tailor made ceremonies has been gratifying and uplifting.

I am lucky in that I have had many years working behind a microphone as a Public Speaker so that side of the Ceremonies is a lot easier for me than some others, but I still feel the nerves in the stomach every time I stand ready to approach the microphone, so the thrill is still there.

patIt really doesn’t matter if you are an “Old” or a “New” Celebrant, what does matter is whether you truly care about the people you are involving in the ceremony.

I say; “I Do”
