Anne Grundy Melbourne Authorised Civil Celebrant - Appointed September 2008
|
I was appointed in September 2008 and live in Ringwood, Victoria. I came to Celebrancy after a varied career starting in office administration, then working with my husband in our own small businesses, and back to office administration and bookkeeping. |
| I have wanted to be a Celebrant for quite some time, but one of the businesses I ran with my husband was a restaurant where weddings were conducted, and to be authorized as a Civil Celebrant it is not permitted to be involved in something that may be a conflict of interest. I have three adult sons and grandchildren. When the boys left home and we disposed of the business, I finally found I had the time, energy and commitment to undertake the training to become a Celebrant and I took to it with a relish.
In my working life, superior service has always been important to me, and I really enjoy achieving an outcome that exceeds the expectation of my clients. I love using the creative side of my personality to craft meaningful ceremonies, and the practical business side really helps with the legalities and paperwork required. As far as I am concerned, it’s the perfect mix! I have encountered many touching moments during the ceremonies I have performed, but one that was particularly meaningful was at a naming ceremony I performed for a little boy on his first birthday. He was born prematurely and had difficulties that involved operations and hospitalization on several occasions over that first year. The parents love for each other and the child was evident, and they had postponed the naming until the important milestone of his first birthday.

The little boys smile lit up the room, and he thoroughly enjoyed the attention, but needless to say Dad’s speech and the Godparent responses were very emotional, and there were a few tears all around.
It is an honour and privilege to be a Celebrant and to be involved in the special moments in a family’s life. I look forward to being able to “give up the day job” as the celebrancy work increases and who knows – maybe I will perform the marriage ceremony for that little boy one day!
