Many thanks to Amanda for providing her profile. Amanda Matler Melbourne Authorised Civil Celebrant - Appointed September 2008 There are many reasons why I was interested in becoming a celebrant but it wasn’t until my mother died 4 years ago that I began to seriously consider it further. After being very disappointed with the way mum’s funeral was handled by a local church, I fully realised the importance, value and positive impact of a ceremony (whether it be a funeral, wedding or other type of ceremony) that has been created with care, empathy and genuine interest. I come from a customer service and human resources background and have been involved in a small business for many years. I have found that the skills and experience I have gained throughout my working life to be a huge benefit when setting up my Celebrancy business. I love being a celebrant and believe that it is definitely what I am meant to be doing! My first twelve months have been an amazing journey, both personally and professionally, and I know that I will never stop learning something new! I have been made very welcome by my local celebrant group and have made some wonderful friends, both old and new celebrants alike. I was authorised in September 2008 and since then have been lucky enough to perform quite a few weddings to date and have already had many word of mouth referrals from past weddings. One of the most rewarding aspects of my role as a celebrant has been the close bonds I have made with many of my clients and I take great pleasure (and am also humbled) when one of the parents of a couple come up to me straight after a ceremony and say “Thank you so much – that was a wonderful ceremony”. On a more personal level, I have been blessed with a very loving and supportive family. My husband, Andrew, is my best friend and the world’s greatest roadie and my two wonderful young adult children are very proud of their mum for realising her dream. Where would I like to be in 5 years time? I would like to see my husband not working as hard, my children finish their formal education and find happiness in whatever they chose in life, and I hope to still love what I am doing, undertake funeral training and continue to strive to be the very best celebrant I can possibly be.
