Brisbane celebrant Glenda Ashurst - Appointed 1985
|
|
As a child I lived on a farm so it was therefore necessary to attend boarding school for my education. I was fortunate that extra tuition was available for Elocution and Drama training which I feel has stood me in good stead for projecting my voice and the ability to perform in front of a lot of people for presentation at ceremonies, even though I am still a little nervous. A colleague told me recently that was good because it meant I still cared about my couples and the quality of my work.

A friend of mine was a Celebrant and insisted that I apply to be appointed as a Celebrant having also had a background in compering fashion parades and other community minded events.
I was fortunate enough to be appointed on the 31 July 1985 and my Celebrant friend was invaluable in passing on his advice and expertise.
Looking back over the years to me the job grows more satisfying each year. I have always looked upon it as being a service to the public. Meeting with many people and being part of their lives on their most important day is to me both an honour and a privilege.
My association with people extends beyond Weddings to Namegivings for babies, Renewal of Vows and then the request to officiate at Funerals, I feel part of so many families lives they become friends as well as clients.
I would also like to add my thanks to Rona Goold and Ginny Bydder who have helped me so much over the last few years and now through the ACCN. They are always there for me no matter what my request and come forth with any new ideas to help make Celebrancy an enjoyable and personal experience.
