| Bowral celebrant Charles B Dunk JP |
Civil Marriage Celebrant. I was appointed as a Civil Marriage Celebrant in July, 1975, in the second 'batch' of such celebrants appointed by the Attorney General. |
I previously had quite a lot of experience as a Marriage Celebrant, as I had been Clerk of the Court, and Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages at Bowral Court House from 4th January, 1960. During that time I had performed many weddings as the District Registrar, at the Court House, but I was regulated very strictly to words and phrases used. After performing a wedding for a third brother in a local family, I felt I could have dropped dead and their mother could have quite easily completed the ceremony for me.

Are there any OH&S issues to be considered here Charles :-) ?

I enjoyed the planning with each couple, so when the Attorney General Lionel Murphy bought in the new legislature, appointing 'Civil Marriage Celebrants' I applied. It took some time for the appointment to come through. The first wedding I performed was a small intimate family ceremony, on a typical wet winter’s evening, in a private home in Bowral. The middle aged couple were much more relaxed than I was. I believe that every marriage ceremony is unique because it is so special to just one couple concerned. I never agree with people who say "You’ve been to one wedding you’ve been to them all!" A wedding is about people - two people in particular - a bride and groom. Memories of weddings shared and celebrated with many couples, include my son Craig’s wedding at Frensham, in Mittagong, a sunset wedding on a beach at Dunk Island, and wet/windy weddings at many local venues. So where do I want to be in five years time? Retired and healthy reliving my many individual memories as a Celebrant and the friends I made. Charles. Bowral NSW |
