| Sydney celebrant Gordon Munday - Appointed 11/09/2007 |
 |
My background leading to Marriage Celebrancy,I would have thought was rather ordinary, considering the many distinguished backgrounds of celebrants, prior to their registration. I will reveal my journey, in the hope it will prove interesting to read. I am just an "ordinary bloke", who loves people, and ten years ago I made some enquiries, re Marriage Celebrancy; but the process at the time was not encouraging, in that areas of need recognised and reported to the appropriate authorities,"those who must be obeyed" revealed an outcome which did not benefit myself.

Then, in 2004, I was injured at work, (I was a semi-trailer driver)and once again I made enquiries, and took up distance learning through Tweed training at Murwillimbah; so I would have plenty of time to study; yet, on reflection, the training given was limited, and failed in many areas of necessary instruction. I passed, and I agree with many, that there would not be an advantage to the trainers to "fail" students. With my background of Church Ministry, Sunday school superintendent and youth worker over a twenty year period, I felt comfortable. I have had public speaking experience, and also conducted three funerals, which were family members. I was registered in 2007, after 18 months on the waiting list.My first wedding took place outside a garage roller shutter, in a back street in Punchbowl, NSW, at 6am. Bride, groom and two witnesses only.An abrupt introduction to Marriage Celebrancy, and like many others in our wonderful profession; just the beginning of the rainbow of variation .I have conducted thirty Namings, and up to October, '08,seventeen weddings. While the opportunities for ceremonies may now be challenged by the increased numbers registered, I love this calling, and will pursue it with increased vigour. Plumpton. NSW.
