Thoughts on civil society, ceremonies and celebrations
their marriage is still going strong.
Herbert Fisher and wife Zelmyra married on May 13, 1924, making them the world's longest married couple. Full story is on:

According to The Stir they said that among their marriage secrets are remembering that :
- everyone, who plants a seed and harvests the crop, celebrates together;
- people are also individuals, but accomplish more together,
and that - marriage is not a contest so never keep a score!
As the world's longest married couple, perhaps that's a clue to having a lasting relationship.
So this seems to me their tips are:
1. Choose well
One's character is more important than looks ... the latter certainly changes with age
2. Have realistic expectations
Don't marry someone thinking you can change them ... it's hard enough to change oneself !
3. Appreciate more can be achieved by working together
A burden shared is one that's halved ... A joy that's shared is one that's doubled
4. Let go of the past, plan for tomorrow .... but live in today
What’s important to know though is that we do not get this moment ... of this day ... of this year ... ever again.
We can not change the past, but we can change our attitudes to it.
We can live with anger, bitterness, fear, and despair .... Or
We can choose to live with love, with humility, forgiveness, trust and hope.
For we do not know how many of those precious moments we will have to live ... so best to make the best of each one of them.
Our choices, large and small, and even tiny, have just as much to do with creating the unique individuals we become ... as the unique person we are.
What are your tips for a "long" marriage? What does a "good" marriage look like?
Over to you ...
Cheers
